Mountain Biking

Alta Alpina is centered in an area with amazing mountain biking. From all-season trails down in the Carson Valley, through to splendid trails along the Sierra Crest with views over Lake Tahoe. There are so many trails in the area that you could ride a new one each week without repeating any all summer. We know this, because we do it

Our activity in mountain biking is broadly divided into three categories:

1. Tuesday Evening Mountain Bike Rides

This is a series of social mtn bike rides, every Tuesday evening after work. We go all summer long doing different rides each week, barely repeating any all season. Most are out-and-back format, so don't be stressed about fitness, we want riders of all levels. We'll usually grab some refreshments afterwards, either trailhead tailgate, or at a local establishment. The ride destination is chosen each week depending on weather conditions, daylight hours, and in spring the progression of snowmelt up the Sierras. The ride is posted a few days beforehand to our Rideboard.

2. Other rides, as posted on the Ride Board

Ad hoc weekend and midweek rides, posted by club members to the club rideboard. These don't follow a regular pattern, but are posted when conditions are suitable and riders available. All club members can post to the rideboard.

3. The annual Pinenut Cracker Race

This was a corner-stone of the club's cycling calendar for many years, but has not been held recently due to various issues like land access, Covid restrictions, then fire damage. Work is continuing in the background to resolve these issues and bring back the event, so watch this space!
