This ride: We'll climb Old Clear Creek Road, get on Hiway 50 for the rest of the climb to Spooner Summit, then go anti-clockwise down and around to Stateline and climb Kingsbury to get back to Genoa. I'm riding with the “No Drop" group, which will start at 10am. If you prefer not to have to wait for slower riders, you can join the faster group starting at 10:30 am - but please do slow down and socialize a bit before you fly by us!

Terrain is non-technical except for a few tight switchbacks - intermediate according to Trailforks. We should get back to the picnic by 1PM or earlier so we can get a head start vs. the roadies on the picnic.

Description: All club members are welcome as Alta Alpina hosts a training series for non-club members, for both our Alta Alpina Challenge and the Death Ride. We’ll ride CCW around Diamond Valley, then head north to summit Kingsbury, ride through South Lake Tahoe to Luther Pass, and return down Woodfords Canyon. There will be snacks and drinks mid-ride at rest stops as well as at the end. For 2024 we’ve partnered with the Death Ride for this training series, in that Death Ride participants can sign up for this series when they sign up for the Death Ride, so we’re already on track to have a much bigger turnout for each ride in 2024 than past years. Club members are encouraged to join us in hosting the training series participants. You’re not expected to be an expert coach, just be friendly and helpful and ride with or wait for the participants that are best matched to your speed. We need club members of ALL speeds, so please join us! In particular we need someone to ride with or follow the last rider for each climb, and if we have 2 sweeps then one can sweep Kingsbury, the other Luther. Faster riders, assume you might have to slow down a bit to ride with the fastest participants, though there’s always a wide range of speeds among the participants. If the weather is bad on the scheduled Saturday then the ride will be postponed until Sunday, and this posting will be updated accordingly no later than the day before the ride. Please contact me if you have questions or can volunteer to ride sweep or volunteer to staff the rest stops.
